Text Messaging
Scam
The
Canadian Anti-Fraud Call Centre would like to warn the public
about unsolicited prize scam messages being received through
text messaging.
Canadian
consumers have reported receiving text messages advising them
they have won a prize. The messages are purportedly
from cellular phone providers in the United Kingdom, such
as o2 Mobile. Victims are subsequently asked for personal
information, and to pay up-front fees in order to receive
their prize.
The
Canadian Anti-Fraud Call Centre would like to remind the public
if you've won, it's free, and you are not required to pay
up-front fees or make purchases in order to receive your prize.
Fraud
reports can be made to Reporting Economic Crime Online at
www.recol.ca or by calling
the Centre at 888-495-8501.
