FTC Obtains Ban Against Toronto
Business
Directory Seller
July 6, 2005 -- The
FTC obtained an order banning Terrence Croteau and his businesses,
4049705 Canada Inc. d/b/a Pinacle and 3782484 Canada Inc.
d/b/a M.D.S.C. Publishing, from the business directory business,
barring their deceptive or misleading claims, barring the
defendants from attempting to collect payment for listings
in any business directory, barring them from selling or sharing
their “customer” lists, and ordering them to give up $2,931,568
in ill-gotten gains.
The
FTC had alleged the defendants scammed small businesses and
charities in the United States out of millions of dollars
by billing them for business directory services they did not
order or authorize. Croteau faces mail and wire fraud
charges in the Southern District of Illinois.
